The Echo Chamber 4 & healthiness

I make it simple and dictate for ChatGPT. This day I  started with some exercises, not for English, but for my physical state. I had had about 20 minutes of ergobiking, and after that also about 20 minutes of gymnastics. During my exercises I listened to a new English video podcast by a young man with very clear British English, and he told us, if we are able to understand him, we have the facility, we can dare to go to Great Britain and talk there and we would be able to understand. He says listening is the most important thing. Without listening you cannot communicate. But the second point, of course, is speaking. During my walk, after a break, I listened to the same podcast again, and I found out that my understanding had become better, but not totally complete.

In my book, The Echo Chamber, I read a very interesting chapter of a discussion within the family between the parents, Elisabeth and her crazy friend, Wilkes. Wilkes, as I have told, intends to go with Elisabeth to Indonesia for nursing lepers. But first, he demanded that he, in future, he has to be addressed not anymore as he, but as they. He is a binary type, and so it’s quite unsound to call him he or to call him she, but he is they. On this basis, a very complicated discussion has arisen, and I  sometimes lost my breath because of Wilkes’ argumentation Wilkes. I cannot repeat it here, because it’s too difficult found out all the contradictions if you change this kind of addressing to they for one person who means they were binary.

Only one interesting point, I want to notice that there is an ambiguity of the pronoun you in the English language. This problem I have also discussed with Grayson and Sophia, and they were very surprised because,  up to this time, they hadn’t  thought about it or noticed it at all. In the case if one person means  is two, and you say you, do you mean only the binary person, or you mean a person which is binary or not, and another person, in this case Elizabeth, sitting thereby, is meant too. How to differentiate between these cases. You can say we have now a triguity (is there such a term?). You may think about it. I don’t want to explain it further.
