I have forgotten how many methods I have applied for better understanding. One of the first methods was a grasp without knowledge about the process of listening. I thought that better pronunciation would lead automatically to better understanding. And so I subscribed to Rachel’s English and had to notice that it had a lot of exercises, but without any big advantage in understanding. And so I gave up, not only because of the time-wasting, also it was rather boring at all and nothing for me. Then I used DailyDictation. It’s a very interesting one, but there were some disadvantages. One disadvantage was it wasn’t clear British English, it wasn’t clear American English, it was Canadian English. But I think that was not so important for me. Much more important was it’s a kind of school method, and I don’t like such school methods. Then I had a subscription for BoldVoice. This app was an artificial-intelligence-dependent app and extremely focused on American English. And the exercises weren’t of a kind I looked for. Repeating single words wouldn’t help to come to a better pronunciation. You have to pronounce it inside a sentence, inside a text. There were also some possibilities to do this, but it wasn’t sufficient for me. Perhaps I was again a little bored by this method. Then I now make a jump, having had some other methods too, and now I had a long discussion with you, Mueller, how I can improve my listening skill. And we came to a special portal of thousands of short audios and videos which can help me in better understanding because this method is going on in the following steps: listening, listening with transcription, reading transcription, listening again. Of course, such steps I’ve been following already, the new here is the shortness and naturalness of the talks so I’ve got the willingness to repeat them as often as necessary. And now I’m going to try to follow this method at least 20 days and will look for any success at this point. I have to define what would be a success. This I will try to describe in my next diary entry. That’s enough for today.
