Some teachers are very ambitious to teach their pupils a lot of idioms, making is feeling that speaking English without idioms isn’t speaking English at all. This takes away from our self-confidence and makes our effort almost senseless. I’m a great reader of English books, and I had to find out that there are not such a lot of idioms in them, and if any, I didn’t learn them during any lectures. Learning a lot of idioms and applying them extensively could train your memory, but it doesn’t make you more understandable to your communication partners. You can be sure that they are familiar with a lot of idioms too, but it’s accidental if they are the same ones you know and use. I think I should suggest not learning idioms deliberately, but grasping them as you meet them and trying to fit them in your language if they occur more than once.
Finally, a brief note about my state of health this morning. I felt pretty bad, had the feeling I was coming down with a fever, or had a fever, and after deciding not to go to my sports club, I relaxed and was able to take a short walk at an acceptable pace and gait after this break.
