It’s Ella’s birthday today. But she is far from us and we have no chance to celebrate it together.
Surprisingly, I didn’t cook today, and Ulrike didn’t either. She prepared a cold dish, one of our favourite dishes – Caprese. Do you know it? It’s an Italian antipasto, but for us, a complete dinner. It only consists of cheese, exactly mozzarella, tomatoes and basil. All these are stacked on top of each other: cheese, tomatoes, basil. To be honest, the order has to be a little different: tomatoes, cheese, basil. That is just the Italian flag: red, white, green. Is that true? Look for it! All the parts have to be soaked in oil and spiced with salt, pepper and sometimes paprika powder to get it hotter, if you like it. Truly, it tastes delicious but nobody knows why. Is it oil, basil, pepper or all the ingredients together? Nevertheless, we love it and make it again and again, at least twice every month. Sometimes it’s Ulrike who prepares it, sometimes it’s me. I claim that Ulrike is able to make it better than me but she objects to it.
